How to log into a Chat Room

To start chatting, input a user name of your choice, and click Connect. Your user name must be unique from other user names that are logged into the chat room. If you are required to enter a password, a pop-up window will appear where you can enter your room or user password. Some rooms may require registration.

How do I enable room roaming for my Chat Room?

In order to enable this feature for your room, you must be able to administer the web page that contains the chat room applet code.

How do I register a user name

If you would like to register a user name and password, please use the link provided on the site you are visiting to do so. Some rooms do not require registration. Please contact the webmaster of the web site that you visit for more information on their own requirements.

Get user information

You can get information on any user in a room. To see this information click on the visitor's name from within the user list. Any information available will be displayed in the main chat room for you to view.

To send a message

Chat messages posted by all users are displayed in the main chat window. To add to the conversation, type a message into the text input box located below the main chat window, and click on the Send button (or hit the Enter key on your keyboard).

Send a private chat request to a user

You can send a private chat request to any user in a room. To send the request to the visitor, click on the visitor's name from within the User List, and click on the 'Private Chat' button. You can also double click on a user to invoke the private chat command. You will see a smaller window pop up and you can chat with the user in that window.

Ignore a user

You can ignore any visitor in a room. To ignore a user highlight a user's name, from within the chat user list, and then click on the 'Ignore' button. All ignored users will display with a strike-through through their user name. You will not see anything the ignored visitor types, and the ignored visitor will be unable to have a private chat with you. To unignore a visitor, click on the user's name from within the chat user list, and click on the 'Accept' button. You can ignore as many people as you wish.

Ignore Private Messages

You can ignore all private messages. When a private message is initiated you can click on the 'Ignore' checkbox and all future private messages will not be seen.

Bold

If you wish to BOLD your messages in the main chat window.

Italic

If you wish to Italicize your messages in the main chat window.

Color

If you wish to change the color of your messages in the main chat window.

ParaChat is already equipped with the following sound files, depending on which service you are using:

Float

If you wish to resize your chat room, click on the button. This option opens the chat room in a separate window. This separate window can be resized and moved about on your screen. Close the window or click    button to return the window to the original Web page. The default size of the floating window is 75% of your screen. Drag a corner or edge to resize it.

Control Panel

The    button invokes the Control Panel. The Control Panel allows you to customize and manage your chat session in the following ways:

• Rooms Tab - displays other available chat rooms

• Create Tab - create a new public or hidden room

• Users Tab - search for other users

• Color Tab - change your chat message font color

• Icons Tab - click on an emoticon to display in your chat message

• Font Tab - set your font size, font style, and window color

• Settings Tab -

• Double-space text

• Beep on enter

• Beep on exit

• Join/leave message

• Timestamp messages

• Heartbeat - set a pulse to stay connected to the chat room

• Block all private - blocks all private massages

• Turn off Profile - turns off profile information

• Page admin (if room admin is present)

• Admin Console (if you are logged in as admin)

• Moderation Console (if moderation is turned on)

Clipboard

Click the     button to "screen dump" the chat text from within your main chat window into a separate plain text window. When the chat text appears in the plain text window, you may copy the text using your keyboard's "CTRL-C" Copy function, or your right-click menu's "Copy" option.

Search

This button is enabled in our Basic service to allow users to search the internet for any topic that might be discussed in the chat room. Using Professional and above, this button can be customized to any URL.

Help

If you have any questions on how to operate your chat room, click on the "Help" button and you will be directed the the chat help pages. You can also type %help to see help commands in the main chat room.

Log In

Log Out

Click on the    button to leave the chat room.  Click on the  button to re-enter the chat room.

Page Room Admin

To page the room administrator / operator , open your control panel, click on the Settings tab and then click "Page Room Admin" button. This will notify the admin user that you would like to chat with them. If the admin is not present, you will be given a message notifying you of this fact.

Leaving a chat room

If you wish to leave the chat room, click on the  button, or close the web page.

Number to the right of the button bar

This option displays the number of people in the room.
